How It Works

Each session runs 60 minutes of instruction followed by up to an hour of live Q&A with an experienced Story District teacher. That's real time to ask questions, troubleshoot your specific story, and get feedback you can use. The coaching draws on the same framework Story District's founding Artistic Executive Director, Amy Saidman, has taught for more than 25 years.

By the end of the series, you'll have the tools to find material, shape it into a captivating story, and share it with more confidence than when you started. You'll also have a framework you can apply again and again as you build your story portfolio.

TESTIMONIALS

What Past Storytellers Say

"Small moments turned out

to big ones"

"Storytelling has taught me that moments that I thought were perhaps mundane, uninteresting, or just a blip on the radar of my past actually can carry a lot of weight and have deeper meaning, depending on how

you look at it."

- Kelsey Times

"My coach wouldn't let me

play it safe"

My coach didn't let me get slippery and tell a 'nice' story — held me to my greatness, gave it to me straight, and wasn't ok with ok. I felt seen, and the feedback actually helped.

- Shazia Imam

"The workshop changed how we tell our story"

"The workshop was a huge success. I've heard nothing but positive feedback and appreciation for it. We've already started working on sharing our stories more. It underscored just how much storytelling builds trust with the people we work with"

- Judy Ruttenberg

FAQs

Do I need any storytelling experience?

Not at all. This workshop is designed for beginners, as well as experienced speakers. Whether you're telling your first personal story or looking to strengthen a skill you already use professionally, we'll meet you where you are.

What if I don't think I have any interesting stories?

You're not alone. In fact, that's one of the most common things we hear. One of the biggest myths about storytelling is that you need an extraordinary life to tell a compelling story. You don't. This workshop will help you recognize the meaningful moments that are already part of your life and show you how to shape them into stories that connect with others.

I'm nervous about speaking in front of other people. Is this workshop still for me?

Absolutely. Our workshops are designed to be supportive, welcoming, and interactive. There is never pressure to perform, and you'll be encouraged to participate at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Many participants join because they want to build confidence, not because they already have it.

What kinds of stories will I learn to tell?

You'll learn how to tell true personal stories drawn from your own experiences. Whether it's a childhood memory, a pivotal life moment, a funny experience, or a story you want to use in your professional life, you'll learn a framework that helps you turn real experiences into engaging narratives.

What if I want to use storytelling at work?

This workshop isn't just for the stage. Participants use these skills in presentations, interviews, leadership, fundraising, networking, teaching, team meetings, and everyday conversations. The framework you'll learn can be adapted to almost any setting where communication matters.

Will I get to practice?

Yes. Each session includes opportunities to apply what you're learning through guided exercises and discussion. If you choose to share your work, you'll also receive thoughtful, constructive feedback from your instructor and fellow participants.

READY TO GIVE storytelling a try?

Your experiences can become unforgettable stories.

The hardest part isn't finding the perfect words. It's figuring out what your story is really about.
